Economic Cooperation
Local cooperative ventures between communities, businesses and governmental institutions lie at the heart of LSED processes, both as a tool and as a value in their own right. These ventures can arise between groups of residents who come together for purposes of shared consumption or production; they can also arise between businesses to leverage the local economy; or they can arise between various groups, public and private, to promote enterprises that benefit the general public in the area. Local joint ventures cope with regional challenges such as geographical remoteness and limited resources and benefit from added size to leverage local assets and innovations. Cooperative ventures embody an additional LSE principle, the principle of economic solidarity.
