Technology transfer and the cultivation of innovation between academy and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as a tool for elevating local sustainable economic development

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), hold a crucial role within local sustainable economic development. These enterprises are connected to the local communities, but their ability to allocate resources for innovation in their fields encounters financial, technological and other challenges. In the 1990s, European Union member states decided to focus on the connection between research, innovation and local SMEs to leverage local sustainable economic development.
